Summer is one of the best times to experience everything Boise and the Treasure Valley have to offer. Outdoor Activities in and Around Boise
Floating the Boise River
One of the quintessential Boise summer activities is floating down the Boise River. Grab a raft or tube from Boise River Raft & Tube and enjoy a leisurely float (about 3 hours) under the sun, a perfect way to cool off and relax.
Adventure at Bogus Basin
Just 45 minutes from Boise, Bogus Basin transforms into an outdoor playground during the summer. Enjoy scenic hiking and mountain biking trails, ride the tranquil chairlift, test your skills on the mountain coaster, and rock wall.
Catch Waves in Garden City
Yes, you can surf in Boise. Whitewater Park offers man-made river waves that attract kayakers and river surfers from around the region. Even if you’re not ready to jump in, you can watch the action, or enjoy the Boise River & Greenbelt.
Summer Events in the Treasure Valley
Alive After Five
A Boise summer tradition, Alive After Five brings live music, local food vendors, and a lively downtown atmosphere to The Grove Plaza every Wednesday evening. It’s a great way to enjoy warm summer nights while experiencing the energy of downtown Boise.
Boise Music Festival
Held each summer at Expo Idaho, the Boise Music Festival features nationally known artists, local performers, family activities, food vendors, and a full day of entertainment. It’s one of the largest annual events in the Treasure Valley. This year it is held on 6/27.
Idaho Shakespeare Festival
The Idaho Shakespeare Festival offers professional outdoor theater performances under the stars each summer. Guests can enjoy a picnic, beautiful scenery along the Boise River, and world-class productions in one of Boise’s most unique venues.
Fun For Kids in Boise
The Discovery Center
A favorite destination for local families and visitors alike. Located near Downtown Boise, this hands-on science center features interactive exhibits, rotating displays, and engaging activities that inspire curiosity in children of all ages.
Boise Bike Park
Boise Bike Park is for riders of all ages and skill levels, featuring pump tracks, jump lines, skills areas, and plenty of space to practice and play. Located near Downtown Boise, it’s a fun and active way for families and cycling enthusiasts to enjoy the outdoors.
Bogus Basin Adventure
Bogus Basin offers plenty of family-friendly activities, including a climbing wall, summer tubing hill, mountain coaster, bungee trampoline, gem panning, and scenic chairlift rides. It’s a great place for kids and adults to spend a summer day just minutes from Boise.
Indoor Fun in Summer
The Boise Depot
One of the city’s most iconic landmarks, offering beautiful architecture, panoramic views of Downtown Boise, and a glimpse into the area’s railroad history. Discover museum exhibits, the surrounding gardens, or take a guided tour.
The Flicks
Boise’s beloved movie theater shows a mix of independent films, documentaries, foreign films, and select mainstream releases. With its cozy atmosphere, on-site café, and local charm, it’s ideal for movie lovers looking for a unique night out.
Wahooz Fun Zone
One of the Treasure Valley’s top destinations for family entertainment, featuring bowling, laser tag, arcade games, bumper cars, indoor attractions, and more. Located in Meridian, it’s a great place to beat the summer heat and keep the family entertained for hours.
